We woke up early for another nice day of island hopping. Today our plan was to hit 7 islands (we ended up only making it to 6).
These islands were incredible!! From tiny islands completely covered in sand, to large islands with perfect beaches, and we there wasn’t a cloud in the sky. I really went at it hard with the sunscreen but I still got some areas that are sun burnt. The sun is just so hot over here. The tops of my feet are especially bad.
It was a great day to get to know Kristel and Val more. We started having running jokes and really getting along. Good times to have travel companions. Tomorrow will be our last day together. Hopefully we can travel again sometime.
After our epic day of soaking up the sun we all hung around together. We tried to find a local dessert called hallo hallo but the only place is up north on the islands so we will try tomorrow. We bought a bunch of fruits and turned our most them were dry and pretty old. We ate them anyway. The guy who sold it to us acted out a big process making sure we got the right ones. Seems like he gave us the bad ones on purpose. Kristel said, “I hope that guy gets warts.” Good point, me too.
We found a game in our homestay called battle sheep. Silly game for 4 players – perfect. Ivana won. I came in last by a mile. As we were playing there was a small earthquake. Apparently it was 5.9 which is quite large, but far away. It scared us pretty good, we went outside to see what was happening. The local guy at our homestay was completely non chalant and sort of laughed at our worriedness.
All in all, it was a great travel day. Ivana and I made some plans to get new gear to film our vlogs, once we are in Indonesia. So this time next week we should have some small, lighter, and altogether better gear.

I am getting pretty good at flying the drone. Using sport mode and all that. We should have some pretty sexy shots of those small islands. I was thinking after our trip is over and the vlogs are done we will do some compilation videos. ‘Best things to do in Vietnam, best islands to hop in Phillipines, best drone shots in our year of travel’ etc. Should be a way for us to get more content out there when we are not travelling.
Ivana and I have begun talking about trying to take this very seriously and travel full time. She can work online a few hours a week, like she is now, and I can get odd jobs at hostels we stay at. We just love travelling. But I guess we should wait and see when this year is over. We might be homesick or even just sick of travelling. We both have jobs to go back to so we can take our time to make up our minds.
I wish we were pumping out better vlogs. I think the new gear will help. We are capturing separate audio and video right now, which is ridiculously time consuming to edit. Also we don’t film in 60 (or more!) fps, so we can’t do any slow motion. If we can improve the quality of our vlogs, and also increase the rate at which we upload them, I think we can start to gain subscribers. Then we can get free stays in hostels and free activities. Will help us travel longer.
If all of this doesn’t happen, at least we got to travel for a full year. And we will go back to travelling every winter for 1 – 2 months like we have been. It’s been really great to travel with Ivana. She’s incredibly patient and easy going and full of surprises. Just found out today she got our canyoneering adventure for free because of our youtube channel. Way to go Ivana.
Not much else to say, feeling pretty good right now. I’m glad to be where I’m at and excited towards the future. In 2 days we leave for Indonesia, where we will stay at Ivana’s dad’s house. Looking forward to that, to have some time to relax (and edit 9 vlogs we are behind!) but also to hangout with Ivana’s dad. He’s got a bunch of bakeries he owns and when we were there two years ago he showed me a bunch of cool stuff. New locations he might buy, new products he might sell. Cool.
I could probably type forever today. I’m really feeling good. But I am going to go to bed – its 10pm!! That’s late for me.
Seeya tomorrow
